Sixth Form

Life in the Sixth Form at Benenden provides the ideal bridge between school and university. The Sixth Form accommodation, Founders, has a real university feel which encourages girls to be independent – but with the added benefit of all the support from the expert staff at a boarding school.

Girls usually have individual rooms and are encouraged to do their own cooking and laundry. They have their own common room and coffee bar, which also serves wine at weekends (under close supervision and with parental permission!)

Sixth Form students remain members of their original Houses, holding senior House posts and taking an active interest in House affairs.

Founders comprises four Houses:

As you would expect in a Sixth Form environment, Founders has a more mature atmosphere than the Lower School, in which students are purposeful and relaxed. Girls aged 16 to 18 are far more independent and are helped to find the right balance between their studies and unwinding, and to manage time effectively.

At that age, they don’t need somebody telling them when to go to bed or taking their mobile phone away from them, while other privileges include having their own uniform, a programme of evening lectures, organising their own events, a dedicated Sixth Form Weekend Programme and, in what has now become something of a Benenden tradition, girls in Six Two have the right to use a scooter around the site!

Professional Skills Programme
Find out more about our Professional Skills Programme - our own course that teaches Sixth Form girls practical skills that are vital for the workplace. These include teamworking, having the confidence to turn an idea into a business proposition, giving a business pitch, developing business plans and reading complex financial information.
