Meet the Team

The Chaplain – The Reverend Craig J Huxley SCP. BA (Hons), GDip, QTS, MCollT

Our Chaplain is Father Craig Huxley (or Father Hux as he is affectionately known!). He is an Anglican priest who has been at Benenden since 2007.

Throughout his time here, he has held responsibilities such as Deputy Housemaster and Head of Fourths (Year 7) and has been a teacher throughout. This means that he is well placed to understand all of the different aspects of life at Benenden and offer support to anyone who comes to see him.

Father Hux is often to be found in the Houses in the evenings with his signature tray of chocolate brownies. He really enjoys catching up with students, hearing their news and providing a listening ear. If he isn’t wandering around School chatting with students and staff, he spends his time preparing services, coordinating the School’s fundraising efforts and teaching Religious Studies. In his spare time, Father Hux enjoys playing the piano and organ, listening to jazz music, going for a run and travelling. He considers his greatest achievement to be the blessing of the School’s All-Weather Pitch whilst wearing running kit and a priestly stole.

If any student or member of staff needs a listening ear, then the Chaplain is always available for a one-to-one meeting in his study which can be arranged at any time.

On being a School Chaplain, Father Hux said: “A good Chaplain has to believe that the people to whom s/he ministers are just worth spending time with. The best bit of my job is being alongside people and hearing about their experiences. If I can help them celebrate when things are going well and make life’s challenges a little easier, then I think I’m doing my job properly.”

Anglican Assistant Chaplain – Mrs Ali Harber BSc, MSc, QTS

Mrs Harber has special responsibility for Christian nurture. She coordinates our Christian discussion group, which we call Bread and she is also responsible for Bible Study.

As well as her work in the Chaplaincy, Mrs Harber is Head of Politics and also Head of Sixth Form, so she helps girls navigate their way through the transition from Upper Fifth into Sixth Form, their A Level study as well as their preparations to leave Benenden.

Ali is married to Jonathan who is a Housemaster at Tonbridge School and in their spare time they particularly enjoy exploring the outdoors be it on foot, in a kayak or on skis.
