Tatler Schools Guide

Below is what the Tatler Schools Guide said when they reviewed Benenden in 2016:

Busy, busy, busy is the message we’re receiving – and what would you expect from the only all-girls, all-boarding outfit in the land?

We like head Samantha Price very much and she’s been subtly revising the school’s aims: ‘Benenden: a complete education’ is the school’s new strapline. So girls might meet a Paralympian, nip to Paris for a Model United Nations debate, listen to a forensic-science lecture, perform in The School for Scandal or go on an exchange to Beijing – all while bossing a terrific 90.5 per cent A*–B at A-level.

The list of sporting achievements is too long to list here, but the lacrosse, tennis and netball are brilliant. New initiatives include the Extend, Excel and Explore period on a Friday, when pupils try Arabic for beginners or ‘presenting and pitching’. The school wants the facilities to inspire as much as the teaching, and a 10-year ‘centenary vision’ is in place for a new all-weather pitch, school hall and a staff ‘village’.

The weekend activities programme is immense – sailing, windsurfing, T-shirt painting or even a chocolate-fountain party – and you don’t pay extra on the school bill. There are six boarding houses, plus four for sixth-formers, and they are paired with houses at Tonbridge School. Benenden is more popular than ever: register at least four years in advance.
