Above: The Hemsted House Team
Hemsted is situated in the main building of the School, enjoying close and easy access to the dining room, whilst being separate from the majority of classrooms. The current house was built as a family home in 1860 and it still retains that special atmosphere. Arguably the most beautiful Benenden boarding house, Hemsted has spectacular views over the parkland and beyond, and the original features combined with the Hemsted team’s warmth and enthusiasm make this a ‘home from home’. In Hemsted we put a family ethos at the heart of everything we do. The team, including our diligent domestic staff, work together to foster an environment where each individual is confident in feeling valued, respected and cared for by the others in the House, and as a result of this support is able to achieve their potential.
Housemistress: Mrs Alexandra Roberts became Housemistress of Hemsted in September 2014. Mrs Roberts joined Benenden from Eastbourne College, where she was an Assistant Housemistress, and keen sports coach. She also teaches English Language and Literature at Benenden, and is married to Owen who runs his own headhunting business. Both new to golf, they are enjoying the multitude of courses in the Benenden area and are very pleased to have welcomed the Hemsted tropical fish into their lives, and introduced Hemsted to their dog Wolfgang.
Deputy Housemistress: Miss Sarah Jones joined Hemsted in September 2015. She is a member of the Geography Department and is involved in the Academic Extension programme. In her free time, Sarah loves running, doing yoga and dancing.
Matrons: Mrs K Williams is Resident Matron, Mrs Amber Dowse is the Day Matron and Mrs Nicole Seakens is the Evening Matron. Hemsted's Saturday Assistant is Mrs Zena Mulholland. The House team is very well assisted by a Graduate Assistant.
