Houses - a home from home

I think I’ve settled in really quickly. I love my dorm, which I share with my new friends.

At Benenden we believe that boarding should complement, not replace, family life. The boarding House becomes a pupil's home from home and, within this supportive and relaxed environment, each girl is able to develop at her own pace and to participate in a wide range of House-based activities, including a full programme of Inter-House competitions.

All students live in one of the ten Boarding Houses. There are six Houses for 11-16 year olds (Echyngham, Guldeford, Hemsted, Marshall, Medway and Norris). Each House has its own individual style with a range of different accommodation, from junior dormitories to twin study bedrooms.

The Sixth Form has its own Founders Sixth Form Centre, comprising four Houses (Beeches, Elms, Limes and Oaks) with 184 single study bedrooms plus a wide range of other facilities.

Students themselves play a vital role in running their Houses and have every opportunity to develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility and sympathy to the needs of others. They also benefit from the link with the Sixth Form who, though living in Founders, remain members of their original Houses, holding senior House posts and taking an active interest in House affairs.
